Sam is knitting!

After spending the entire day at auditions for our faire, Southern Connecticut Renaissance Fair, I get home and Sam and Anthony are here.

Last week for her 10th birthday present we went to Michael's and one of the gifts she chose was a knitting kit. So tonight she wanted me to teach her.

We gave up on the kit since they gave you big plastic purple needles -- at least size 15 and very awkward to work with. So I pulled out a pair of size 11 and she picked out some bright purple yarn. I cast on 25 stitches, knit the first row and then showed her what to do. And she's now on her second row, all by herself, doing wonderfully. And so far she likes it.

That's wonderful! I taught Chandra to sew on her little Barbie sewing machine last week at her 6th birthday. She's been watching her Mom and wanted to sew. I bought her some fabric and a little sewing bag for her first sewing things. (We might have to send the #$@&%^)(# back as it has loosy tension.
